We’re looking for an HR Director to lead the people and culture function of a large-scale exhibition and conference organiser. You’ll need to be an experienced Events HR Director / Business Partner with experience of change management and the ability to marry cultural values with best practice.

The business is the leading events company for the public sector, running more than 600 events per year, from exhibitions and summits to conferences, briefings and training courses.

The Role:

The HR Director will have overall control and responsibility for all areas of HR including culture, training and development and staff welfare.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about a strong culture as well as people development and training. The HR Director will be required to manage change within the business, ensuring a smooth evolution of practices within the business, particularly around personal development and mentoring.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • You’ll have overall control and accountability of the HR function and serve as the point of contact for HR matters, working with the business to ensure that people strategies are compliant with employment law and best practice
  • You’ll need to be strategic, delivering both long-term and short-term strategy with the CEO as well as overseeing and supporting business proposal and implementation of HR initiatives
  • Coaching managers on performance management, probationary periods, issues and processes. Developing mechanisms that enable Managers to effectively manage employee relations
  • Overseeing effective implementation or all agreed change programmes, i.e. redundancies and restructures as well as ensuring that employee policies and procedures are up-to-date in line with current employment law
  • Maintaining a suite or HR policies, templates and procures and oversee signoff and development
  • Learning & Development: providing guidance and conducting workshops to up-skill managers’ capability in people management and raise awareness of HR risks
  • Recruitment and Selection: managing talent and on boarding process, advise hiring managers on recruitment best practice, assist in interviews using company competency questions, relationship management with agencies, credit checking new agencies, maintain and negotiate terms of business, and maintain PSL
  • Advise and support employees on company benefits and reward
  • Maintain salary benchmarking data for all roles and offices. Advise people managers on salary reviews and best practice
  • Manage terminations and exit interviews
  • Maintain and create HRMI reports, respond to requests, provide advice and analysis
  • Talent and Succession Management. Maintain and support an environment that recognises and rewards highly talented people
  • Taking full ownership of Health, Safety and Wellbeing procedures for all four offices, ensuring practices are in line with HSE Regulations
  • Liaising with external business partners where necessary

Key Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience at a HR Business Partner
  • Prior experience gained within a SME/Events/Sales environment would be highly beneficial.
  • Previous experience of change management.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Employment legislation in a commercial context.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High integrity and a trusted business partner.
  • Ideally you will be accredited with a Fellowship CIPD qualification.
  • Ability to marry the company’s cultural values, commercial objectives and fluid management approach with setting up and implementing best practice systems and procedures to reduce risk and facilitate growth.
  • Experience of developing and implementing people focused initiatives / strategies / templates / policies.
  • Commercially astute and business-minded, thriving in a sales-led environment
  • An ambitious and energetic individual who is a natural leader and can support the business with a strong team culture
  • Unafraid of getting their hands dirty but also able to take a strategic view, with the ability to fit seamlessly between granular detail and long-term vision
  • The ability to thrive in a challenging, fast paced and high pressure environment
  • Comfortable with accountability at a senior level
